Video Games dan Masalah Kekerasan dalam Kerangka Filosofis

Abstract


Sebagian peneliti video games menunjukan, bahwa video games yang mengandung kekerasan dapat membentuk pemainnya menjadi agresif dan berani melakukan tindakan kekerasan di dunia nyata. Akan tetapi peneliti dan pemikir lain memiliki keberatan tentang penelitian-penelitian tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap kritik menggunakan perspektif filsafat, dan menunjukan bahwa hubungan antara video Games yang mengandung kekerasan dengan pembentukan pemainnya itu kompleks. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian pustaka (library research), dengan menggunakan tiga prosedur metodis: mengumpulkan data, pengolahan data dan penyajian data yang didasarkan pada sumber-sumber kepustakaan yang relevan dengan tema penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukan, bahwa problem hubungan antara video games yang mengandung kekerasan dengan pembentukan diri pemain itu mengandung tiga problem utama, yakni problem kausal. Problem kausal mengacu pada pandangan absennya variabel lain yang turut menentukan hubungan antara video games dengan pemain. Problem lainnya adalah problem identifikasi, yang mengacu pada mustahilnya pemain melakukan identifikasi total atas video games yang dimainkannya. Terakhir adalah problem desensitivikasi, bahwa pemain tidak akan mengalami desensitivikasi di dunia nyata, karena video games hadir sebagai realitas yang berbeda dengan dunia yang riil.
